Crystal Palace fans were left 'devastated' following news that their match away at Everton was called off just 35 minutes prior to kick-off as a result of the adverse weather conditions.

The Merseyside club said on its Twitter feed: "Tonight's game has been called off due to building damage which has led to safety concerns".

And Palace fans - many of whom had arrived at Goodison Park in good time for Wednesday's evening kick-off - reacted angrily to the news.

Blogger @HLTCO vented his frustration on Twitter: “With all due respect, calling a game off 30 minutes before kick-off is an absolute joke. Nothing stopping them calling it off earlier.”

Another Eagles fan, @Bennagle17, added: “Absolutely devastated. Now stuck somewhere near Chester looking forward to the prospect of going home.”

But there were some fans who managed to draw positives from the situation, @Matt_CPFC tweeted: “Another game unbeaten… Get in!”

Meanwhile, Manchester City’s tie against Sunderland also fell foul of the weather conditions, and Stoke’s match with Swansea was delayed by 15 minutes.

An official statement from City read: "Manchester City can confirm that this evening's fixture versus Sunderland has been postponed due to exceptional and escalating weather conditions.”
