Crystal Palace are pushing for the introduction of safe standing by asking fans to sign a petition calling for Parliament to debate the matter.

The Premier League has said that more evidence is required before a decision can be taken to allow safe standing, while this month sports minister Tracey Crouch rejected West Brom’s request for a trial period. The petition has 86,000 signatures — 14,000 short of the 100,000 threshold that would ensure it is considered for debate.

A Palace spokesman said: “We know that many of our supporters want safe standing and we believe it should be debated in Parliament.”
