Juan Foyth's first Premier League goal proved enough to give Tottenham a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace at a sodden Selhurst Park.

It was redemption for the young Argentine, who gave away two penalties in the win over Wolves last weekend, and ensured Palace's dire run of results without talisman Wilfried Zaha continued.

Zaha was ruled out with injury shortly before kick-off, and it is now more than two years since Palace won in the league without him, a run of 12 successive defeats.

Spurs meanwhile made six changes from the side that kept their Champions League hopes alive with a 2-1 win over PSV on Wednesday, but were forced to reverse one of them early on, when Kieran Trippier hobbled off injured, to be replaced by Serge Aurier.

In the pouring south London rain, the first half turned into something of a damp squib, with neither 'keeper being asked to make a difficult save, though Mamadou Sakho put in an excellent block to deny Moussa Sissoko.

Hugo Lloris was jittery in the Tottenham goal throughout, and was fortunate twice early in the second half, first flapping a corner on to the head of James Tomkins and then passing straight out to Andros Townsend, but neither could take advantage.

Tomkins then missed with a much better chance, heading wide when escaping free round the back post from a corner.

On 66 minutes the game finally had a goal, and slightly against the run of play, too, when Foyth reacted first to power the visitors ahead after Harry Kane's header had been blocked by substitute Martin Kelly.

Spurs lost Erik Lamela late on to a nasty looking head injury and might have surrendered an equaliser as well, had Alexander Sorloth not driven his effort straight at Lloris from six yards out.

The win ensures Mauricio Pochettino's side will go into the international break inside the top four, while Palace are outside the relegation zone only on goal difference.
