Cristiano Ronaldo declared himself "very happy and proud" to win the Uefa Best Player in Europe Award on Thursday.
The forward led Real Madrid to Champions League glory before captaining Portugal to victory at Euro 2016, their first major title.
The 31-year-old saw off competition from his Madrid team-mate Gareth Bale and Atletico striker Antoine Griezmann to land the award, which he received after the 2016/17 Champions League group stage draw in Monaco.
Ronaldo scored 51 goals in 48 games in all competitions for Madrid last season, including the winning penalty in the shoot-out win over Atletico in the Champions League final.
He scored only three times at Euro 2016, Griezmann finishing the competition as top-scorer with six goals, and was injured 25 minutes into the final against France.
However, he inspired the team from the touchline to claim an unlikely extra-time victory.
Real president Florentino Perez said of Ronaldo's achievement: "It's always our objective to win everything, that's the obligation we have at Real Madrid.
"We've strengthened the squad this year and we've got a coach who is a perfect fit for Real Madrid, nothing seems to faze him. He knows we have to win the Champions League, La Liga and the Copa del Rey.
"We've very happy because Real Madrid has had two players on the shortlist for the best player in Europe.
"I think Cristiano's award is recognition for one of his most impressive seasons, he's won everything. I also want to add something on Gareth Bale, who arrived three years ago and has won two European Cups."
