Former Spain striker Raul believes Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo could be the best player the world has ever seen.

Speaking to the BBC, 37-year-old Raul, who now fronts MLS team New York Cosmos, said that together with Barcelona star Lionel Messi, Ronaldo is equal to Argentina and Brazil legends Diego Maradona and Pele.

“Now he is at the top, if continues the same way, he could be the best of all time,” said Raul.

“I think Cristiano and Lionel Messi are two of the best players in the history of the game. Are they better than Pele or Diego Maradona?

“They are at the top, but I think it is difficult in football to say who is first or second or third. But if Cristiano continues for five years...”

The 29-year-old striker (above), who overtook Raul’s Champions League goal record of 71 in the 4-0 victory over Ludogorets Razgrad on Tuesday and may also break Raul’s Real Madrid club record of 323 goals, was named world player of the year in January.
