Brentford manager Thomas Frank says he is “convinced” the club will be able to keep Christian Eriksen this summer.

The Danish international has had a transformative impact since joining in January, playing a major role in helping allay any relegation fears.

Brentford have lost only one of the eight games Eriksen has started, with the 30-year-old scoring once and assisting four times in the process.

Such has been his level of performance after returning to action following his cardiac arrest at Euro 2020, Tottenham and Manchester United have been linked with moves.

Out of contract at the end of the season, keeping the former Spurs midfielder is a priority for Frank as Brentford look to build on a successful first season as a Premier League club.

Frank believes his player is in a “win-win” situation after such a strong return to football and was speaking ahead of Sunday’s season finale when relegation-threatened Leeds travel to west London.

“I know I am optimistic but I also picked up the phone and said, ‘Hey, do you want to come to Brentford?’ he said.

“No-one thought about that six months ago. I would love to say 100 per cent, but I am convinced there is a good chance he can wear the Brentford shirt.

“Either he signs with us and everyone is going to be happy and the fans will build a statue of him outside the stadium in two or three years’ time, or he goes to a bigger level and fans will applaud him and we will all say, ‘Thank you for this time, go forward’.”
