Christian Benteke has dismissed suggestions that his younger brother Jonathan is in the Crystal Palace team because he is his sibling.

The 21-year-old striker joined from Belgian side Zulte Waregem and made his Palace debut against Middlesbrough on Saturday, coming on as a substitute in the closing stages.

Benteke senior scored his first Palace goal in the first period before making way for his brother.

Asked about the deal last week, Alan Pardew said: “He is a young striker with natural talent and they are not easy to find. We checked him out and liked the look of him.

“It was an opportunity for us that he is so young and relatively cheap to take a chance on.
