Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has insisted Premier League players and managers will "do the right thing" by taking a pay cut during the coronavirus pandemic.

Premier League clubs have proposed to cut wages by 30 per cent to reduce the financial burden in this period, also contributing £20million to the NHS and £125million to the English Football League and National League.

The Premier League, Professional Footballers’ Association and League Managers’ Association will meet on Saturday in the hope of coming to an agreement.

Speaking on the BBC’s Football Focus, Wilder said: “A lot of footballers, past and present, have got a huge conscience about what we do and doing the right thing.”

"I am sure we will do the right thing through the PFA for the players, the LMA who look after the managers, the Premier League, EFL and FA, they will always do the right thing."

Tottenham, Newcastle, Norwich and now Liverpool have all furloughed non-playing staff prior to the players' proposal announcement, while Bournemouth’s Eddie Howe and Brighton’s Graham Potter both took voluntary wage cuts.

Wilder believes any decisions made should be done so as a collective.

"It is important we get it right and don't go individual,” he said. “It is a little bit disappointing now when you see clubs making individual statements and going their own way.

"It is important that we pull together as an industry, right from the top at the Premier League down to the reaches."
