New Chelsea number nine Gonzalo Higuain - 'I always wanted to play in the Premier League'

New Chelsea striker Gonzalo Higuain says he hopes to repay the club’s faith in him after joining on loan from Juventus until the end of the season.

Chelsea confirmed the arrival of the Argentine striker, who will wear the number nine shirt, on Wednesday evening.

The 31-year-old will have to wait until the weekend's FA Cup action to make his debut after missing the deadline to face Tottenham in the EFL Cup semi-final second leg on Thursday evening.

Higuain cut short a loan spell at AC Milan, where he had scored eight goals in the first half of this season, to move to Stamford Bridge.

The move reunites Higuain with his former boss Marizio Sarri, who he played under at Napoli.

“When the opportunity to join Chelsea presented itself I had to take it,” Higuain told the club website.

“It’s a team I’ve always liked that has a lot of history, a wonderful stadium and they play in the Premier League, a league I’ve always wanted to play in.

“I now hope I can give back that trust Chelsea have shown me out on the pitch. I can’t wait to start and I hope to adapt as soon as possible.”
