Chelsea won't be spending big in the summer, says Bruce Buck

Carlo Ancelotti: won't be making any big signings this summer

Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck has warned the club's fans not to expect significant spending in the transfer market this summer.

The Premier League champions are wary of UEFA plans to force clubs to balance their books and will keep a close eye on their wage bill and transfer expenditure.

The new rules will be in place from the 2012-13 season and clubs could be thrown out of European competition if they do not conform with the regulations.

"We are going to have to be very careful on transfer fees and in salary renegotiation because having a positive profit and loss statement will be crucial in getting a UEFA licence and participating in the Champions League," said Buck.

"Even if we wanted to spend more money we won't be able to so we have to do what is necessary to comply with the new rules."

Buck also ruled out a move away from Stamford Bridge.

He said: "In this current economic environment, it makes no sense for us to look at the possibility of a new stadium."
