Return: Didier Drogba

Chelsea have announced the signing of striker Didier Drogba on a one-year deal.

The 36-year-old first joined Chelsea from Marseille in 2004 for £24million and went on to score 157 goals, winning 10 trophies, during an eight-year spell at Stamford Bridge.

Drogba left west London in 2012 after scoring the decisive penalty in the club's 2012 Champions League final triumph over Bayern Munich.

"It was an easy decision," the Ivorian told the club's official website after putting pen to paper on a Chelsea deal for the second time.

"I couldn't turn down the chance to work with Jose again. Everyone knows the special relationship I have with this club and it has always felt like home to me."

Drogba was available on a free transfer after leaving Galatasaray at the end of last season and Mourinho broke his silence on Drogba's possible return earlier on Friday.

The Portuguese boss, who originally lured Drogba to Chelsea, insists the decision to re-sign the club's fourth highest scorer of all time was not clouded by sentimentality.

"Didier's coming because he's one of the best strikers in Europe," Mourinho said.

"I know his personality very well and I know if he comes back he's not protected by history or what he's done for this club previously.

"He is coming with the mentality to make more history."
