Chelsea target Jamie Vardy has claimed he wants to stay at Leicester "for a long time" amid reports he is set to be offered an improved three-and-a-half year contract.

The 29-year-old has been in superb form for the Foxes this season and his goals have helped Claudio Ranieiri's side become surprise title contenders.

The England international took his Premier League tally to 18 during Tuesday night's 2-0 victory over Liverpool as Leicester opened up a three-point lead at the top of the table.

But Vardy is set to snub ongoing interest from Stamford Bridge and commit his future to Leicester.

Speaking after his two-goal heroics against Jurgen Klopp's side Vardy confirmed: "It's nothing that people don't know - obviously I want to be here for a long time."

The forward currently has two-and-a-half years left on his current deal at the King Power Stadium but is in line to secure a significant pay rise to become the highest earning Leicester player in history.

Leicester's title challenge was previously tipped to falter during the second half of the season but they could extend their lead at the summit when they travel to the Etihad Stadium to face second placed Manchester City this weekend.
