Chelsea are still favourites to claim a spot in the top four despite their early season travails, according to Bet Victor.

The Blues’ title defence has got off to the worst start of any champions since 1996 and Jose Mourinho’s side find themselves a sizeable 11 points behind Manchester City and Arsenal after just ten games of the season.

That has seen the pre-season title favourites odds of a title victory slide a 40/1, however they are still backed to gain fourth place and a spot in next season’s Champions League qualifying round.

Despite languishing in 15th place Chelsea are just three wins off a place in the top four, and just three points behind Saturday’s opponents Liverpool – their likely rivals in the race for the Champions League.

With Bet Victor not taking bets on City and Arsenal, both of whom are considered near-certainties to finish in the top four, Chelsea’s odds of 5/6 put them behind just Manchester United (1/9) in the odds for the European places.

Liverpool are next in the betting at 9/4 and lead Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham, who are priced at 7/2. These three sides are likely to battle it out for the financial rewards of fourth place, with some of the season’s brightest starters deemed unlikely to keep their form going.

Top Four Odds

Manchester United - 1/9
Chelsea - 5/6
Liverpool - 9/4
Tottenham Hotspur - 7/2
Southampton - 12/1
West Ham - 16/1
Everton - 16/1
Crystal Palace - 33/1

West Ham are the current incumbents in the top four and have already upset the odds in matches against last season's top six this season. However Slaven Bilic’s side are priced at 16/1, level with Everton in the odds.

Mourinho hit back at suggestions he had lost the support of his players in the aftermath of the League Cup defeat to Stoke on penalties.

He said: "Honestly, do you think they are not with me? That they didn't give everything to win the game?"
