Chelsea are already planning to offer captain John Terry a new contract to play on next season.

The 35-year-old revealed his desire to earn a new deal after the 3-3 draw against Everton, while manager Guus Hiddink said he would recommend it to the board.

But Standard Sport understands that the hierarchy have already put it on their to-do list ahead of the summer.

No formal talks have taken place yet, but Chelsea don't want to see another experienced player leave the club and want to agree another 12 month extension before the end of the campaign.

It has been acknowledged behind the scenes that Chelsea have suffered from a lack of leaders in the dressing room and can ill afford for Terry, the most experienced of them all, to go too.

Legends Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole left in 2014, while Petr Cech and Didier Drogba departed last summer.

Significantly, the Blues are trying to get Drogba back to Stamford Bridge as part of the coaching staff even though he is contracted to play at Montreal Impact this year.

Terry's form has not been as consistent as last term, but is still a major asset to the side.

The centre half turns 36 in December and may be warned of the possibility that his game-time will be managed a lot more in future, meaning he won't be guaranteed to start every match.

But even though there are a number of clubs around the world, including in China and the USA, willing to offer Terry a fortune to play for them, the former England international wants to see out his career at Stamford Bridge.

He has been at Chelsea since he was 14 and made his professional debut for the club in 1998, aged just 17.

Terry has made 694 appearances for Chelsea, which is the third most in their history. He is now just 31 behind Peter Bonetti and trails leader Ron Harris by 101.#

The club also think there is a possibility that Terry could emulate Ryan Giggs at Manchester United, in playing less the older he gets - but as he does so, gradually stepping up the coaching side of things to play a major role on the sidelines instead.

Chelsea have a strict policy in place which means players over 30 only get 12 months deals.

Last year, Terry didn't sign on again until March, but he insists there is no hurry to sort out his future, especially with Chelsea still sitting in the bottom half of the table.

He said: "I'm in the right state of mind. I'm still hungry. I want to win and finish my career here.

"But I'm not thinking of that. Last year, it was a couple of months from now before things (a new contract) got sorted. For me the most important thing is to get us out of this and up the League table. Hopefully that comes and I will just have to keep plugging away."
