Chelsea must be proud and play for the fans after FA Cup loss, says Guus Hiddink

Chelsea's interim manager Guus Hiddink has called on his team to be "proud" and play for their fans over the next two months after their last chance of winning silverware was crushed by Everton on Saturday.

The Blues travelled to Goodison Park to take on the Toffees on Saturday, days after Chelsea were knocked out of the Champions League by Paris Saint-Germain, in the hope of securing a win and booking their place in the FA Cup semi-finals.

However, former Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku struck twice late on to deny the Blues any hope of achieving their first win in the competition at Everton's ground while heaping more misery on the club.

With Chelsea's only hopes of securing a spot in the Europa League now being through the league - the team currently sit seven points off sixth-placed Manchester United - Hiddink admitted after the 2-0 loss that his players must now play for pride.

"Everyone knows where Chelsea were. The first task was to get out of the relegation zone and we did that fast, we went from 16th to 10th," he said.

"Then there were two cups at stake. It is important now that we have the pride to play when there is nothing much at stake.

"We will be proud and play for the public."
