Chelsea handed treble injury boost ahead of Arsenal EFL Cup semi-final

Simon Johnson23 January 2018

Chelsea have been handed a major boost ahead of the EFL Cup semi-final against Arsenal with the news that captain Gary Cahill, midfielder Danny Drinkwater and Thibaut Courtois are set to be fit for the second leg.

The trio all missed the 4-0 win over Brighton on Saturday through injury and were in a race against time to recover for the second leg at Emirates Stadium tomorrow night.

Cahill was only rated as 50-50 to make the contest after suffering a muscular injury the week before, but he returned to training on Monday morning.

Drinkwater and Courtois (both ankle) also took part in the session and are expected to be available for selection.

Conte also has Alvaro Morata and Pedro to choose from too after they served a one-game ban for being sent off against Norwich.

The tie is finely poised following a 0-0 draw in the first leg at Stamford Bridge, as the Blues look to reach the final for the first time since 2015, and Arsene Wenger looks to tick off the final domestic trophy he’s not won before.
