Chelsea FC XI vs AC Milan: Starting lineup, confirmed team news, injury latest for Champions League tonight

Nizaar Kinsella5 October 2022

Chelsea start with Kepa Arrizabalaga in goal for tonight’s Champions League clash against AC Milan.

Graham Potter has had Marc Cucurella, Edouard Mendy and N’Golo Kante back after missing the recent win over Crystal Palace, in a triple boost to his plans.

The Blues boss confirmed that Mendy faces a battle with Kepa Arrizabalaga over the no1 spot, after missing the last three games, and Potter has kept faith in the Spaniard for the match at Stamford Bridge.

Kante is ‘training more and more’ but isn’t ready to play tonight with his rehabilitation beind handled carefully. He misses out on the squad completely.

Jorginho and Kai Havertz were both doubts with minor muscle injuries going into the match despite training on Tuesday morning, with the pair only fit enough for places on the bench.

Marc Cucurella is also among the substitutes as Ben Chilwell is preferred at left wing-back, with Potter opting for a back-three as Kalidou Koulibaly gets his chance to impress the new boss.

Chelsea are currently bottom of Group E having lost their opening game away at Dinamo Zagreb before drawing with RB Salzburg at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea XI: Kepa, Fofana, Silva, Koulibaly, James, Kovacic, Loftus-Cheek, Chilwell, Mount, Aubameyang, Sterling

Subs: Bettinelli, Mendy; Chalobah, Azpilicueta, Cucurella; Zakaria, Jorginho, Gallagher; Ziyech, Broja, Pulisic, Havertz
