Chelsea Women are closing in on the signing of Levante striker Mayra Ramirez to replace injured Sam Kerr.

According to sources in Spain, Ramirez has reached a verbal agreement to join Chelsea after the Blues saw off competition from Lyon for the 24-year-old Colombian forward.

The signing of Ramirez would be a major boost for Chelsea as they target domestic and European trophies in Emma Hayes’ final season in charge.

Kerr has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a serious knee injury.

She has scored 99 goals in 128 matches for Chelsea and has played a pivotal role in four WSL title wins, three FA Cup triumphs and two League Cup successes.

Signing a replacement for Kerr to boost Chelsea’s firepower could be crucial to their hopes of winning the Champions League.

The Blues are also top of the WSL and still in the FA Cup and League Cup.
