Chelsea reached the Champions League knockouts with an impressive 4-0 thrashing of Juventus.

The Blues were rewarded for their first-half dominance when Trevoh Chalobah hooked a loose ball into the top corner after Antonio Rudiger’s knockdown from a corner.

Reece James doubled the hosts’ lead with a superbly-taken half-volley ten minutes after the interval and Callum Hudson-Odoi made it three soon after.

Substitute Timo Werner added gloss with a close-range finish with practically the last kick of the game.

Dan Kilpatrick was at Stamford Bridge to rate the Chelsea players...

Edouard Mendy - 7

A quiet night until an acrobatic late save to deny Weston McKennie. Had Silva to thank for clearing off the line after he was beaten to the ball by Alvaro Morata shortly after Chalobah’s goal.

Trevoh Chalobah - 8

Finished well but his calm and often no-nonsense defending was just as impressive. Surely Gareth Southgate is watching his progress with interest.

Thiago Silva - 8

His brilliant goalline clearance from Morata’s chip was worth as much as a goal. A vintage, untroubled display at the heart of the back three.

Antonio Rudiger - 8

A constant threat at attacking set-pieces, so no surprise he assisted Chalobah – albeit with the hint of an arm. Enjoyed driving forward with the ball and linked up well with Hudson-Odoi and Chilwell.

Reece James - 9

He made his superb goal look easy to cap another excellent wing-back display. Now Chelsea’s top scorer this season and seemingly getting better with every game.

Ben Chilwell - 8

Squandered a couple of early openings in the box but got forward well and crossed for James’s goal. Forced off in some discomfort, which will concern Thomas Tuchel.

N’Golo Kante - 7

In the mood to drive into the Juve box and helped Chelsea to control the first half before he was forced off, presumably with a knock.

Jorginho - 7

Kept Chelsea ticking over and looked the likeliest to unlock Juve’s stubborn defence in the first-half.

Hakim Ziyech - 7

His corner set up the opening goal and he was involved in some nice passages of play, including a one-two to release Hudson-Odoi. His late cross set up Werner.

Callum Hudson-Odoi - 8

Full of menace all night and took his goal well. Decision making in the final third could still improve but he is growing in influence for Chelsea.

Christian Pulisic - 5

Did not look comfortable as the false nine and struggled to make inroads against towering pair Leonardo Bonucci and Matthijs de Ligt. Played his part in a fine team performance, though.

Subs

Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Kante, 37’) - 8

Weaved through the Juve defence to create Hudson-Odoi’s goal as his resurgence continued. Used the ball intelligently and looked to surge forward when possible, including for a late effort which was well saved.

Timo Werner (Pulisic, 71’) - 7

Returned from injury in a boost for Tuchel and scored at the death. Earlier, nearly made a goal for Loftus-Cheek with a cute pass.

Cesar Azpilicueta (Chilwell, 71’) - 6

Shored up the left flank after Chilwell came off through injury.

Saul Niguez (Jorginho, 76’) - 6

Introduced to give Jorginho a breather and keep the ball for the final 15 minutes.

Mason Mount (Hudson-Odoi, 76’) - 6

Used the ball well as Chelsea ran down the clock.

Not used: Kepa, Bettinelli, Alonso, Christensen, Lukaku, Barkley, Sarr.
