Trevoh Chalobah believes new Chelsea signing Mykhailo Mudryk has put Premier League defenders on alert with his impressive debut against Liverpool.
Mudryk made an immediate impression as a second-half substitute in Saturday’s 0-0 draw Anfield and his direct dribbling in tight spaces caused Liverpool real problems.
Chalobah is confident the £88.5million January signing will be a pose a constant threat for Chelsea and help them rebuild under Graham Potter.
Speaking to Standard Sport, Chalobah said: “You can see he is a very exciting player. We saw what problems he can cause and it is good that he got the run-out and we hope there’s some exciting stuff coming.
“We needed him today to stretch the pitch, he ran in behind a few times and you could see the danger he caused. He is a guy that likes to run with the ball and off the ball.
“You have to be really careful around him but I am glad we’ve got him on our team.”
Mudryk’s impact lifted the away end at Anfield and the 22-year-old could help lift the mood in the dressing room following some difficult results.
Chelsea are 10th in the Premier League, 10 points behind fourth-placed Manchester United and out of both domestic cup competitions.
Without a game until Fulham visit Stamford Bridge on February 3, Chalobah has urged Chelsea to use the time well.
He said: “We need to carry on what we are doing in training, getting to know the new players as well, getting them in and then getting them involved. I include the injured players in that as well — we’re getting them back and it is looking good at the moment so we keep working and training hard.
“You are always going to have difficult patches in football. It’s very important that we stick together and slowly build ourselves back up and we’re starting to do that now.”
Chalobah added: “We need to look at the next game rather than who is above us. We just need to try to win every game that comes to us from now on. Hopefully [we can achieve something], let’s see what happens.
“We then will try to get ourselves back to where we need to be, get back up that table and do well in the Champions League.”
