Conor Gallagher was taken off during the first half of Chelsea’s draw with Brentford because he felt ill.

Graham Potter explained the reasoning behind the midfielder’s early exit on Wednesday night after it appeared he had suffered a knee injury.

The ball cannoned off Gallagher’s leg while it was planted on the turf shortly before his 16th-minute substitution, raising concerns before the Chelsea manager calmed those fears after the full-time whistle.

Potter told reporters: “I haven't spoken to the doctors but he just felt ill. He felt like he was going to be sick.

“You could probably see that in his first 15 minutes, he wasn't quite himself so hopefully it's just a 24-hour thing and he will be okay.

“Obviously that probably affected him and us a little bit but hopefully he recovers quickly.”

Chelsea were held to a 0-0 draw at Gtech Community Stadium in an entertaining west London derby that Potter took the positives from.

He added: “The positives are a clean sheet and a point. That's four points from two away matches which is positive.

“When we did control it we did it quite well but it's a point and we have to move on.”
