Chelsea medical director Dimitrios Kalogiannidis leaving club after 13 years

Former first-team doctor is departing Stamford Bridge due to family reasons

Chelsea medical director Dimitrios Kalogiannidis is leaving the club due to family reasons.

Kalogiannidis, who has been with the Blues for more than 13 years, informed the club of his decision on Thursday.

His departure is understood to be amicable and Chelsea do not need to rush into hiring a replacement as his duties can be shared by current staff members.

Kalogiannidis will be a miss, though, and he has held numerous roles during his time in west London, including first-team doctor. He was promoted to medical director in 2022.

The news of Kalogiannidis’ departure means there will be more changes to Chelsea’s medical department, which has undergone a significant reshuffle since the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital takeover.

Club doctor Paco Biosca and head physio Thierry Laurent both left the club as part of the overhaul.

Chelsea have been struggling with injuries this season and currently sit ninth in the Premier League table after 21 games.
