Chelsea defender Nathan Ake has joined fellow Premier League club Bournemouth on a season-long loan deal, the Blues have confirmed.

The 21-year-old spent last term on loan at Watford and will join up with Eddie Howe's side on the South Coast ahead of the new campaign.

Cherries chief executive Neill Blake is delighted to have secured the services of the Netherlands under-21 international, who signed a new five-year contract at Stamford Bridge last summer.

“We are delighted to welcome Nathan to AFC Bournemouth,” he told the cub's official website.

“For a player of his age he already has great experience in the Premier League and we believe he will bring a lot to our squad.

“He is an international player with great pedigree, so we are really excited to have him join us for the upcoming season.”

Ake joined Chelsea in 2012 but has struggled for game time and has made just 12 senior appearances for the club to date.

The defender is Bournemouth's second signing of the summer after Emerson Hyndman joined on a free transfer from Fulham earlier this month.
