Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger is suffering from a groin injury that has forced him to withdraw from the Germany squad.

Rudiger needed treatment from Chelsea’s medical staff after their 3-0 victory over Southampton on Sunday.

Die Mannschaft are in Uefa Nations League action against Netherlands and Germany but the Blues defender will remain at home to focus on returning to full fitness.

“I won’t be available for the German national team for the upcoming two matches due to a groin problem,” Rudiger wrote on Twitter.

“I will do some individual training sessions during the international break and I am confident to be back soon. Best of luck to my German teammates for the next two games.”

Chelsea will be hopeful their defender can recover before the regular season resumes with a meeting with Manchester United awaiting them once the international break concludes.

The former Roma defender has started and completed seven of his side’s eight Premier League matches this term, forming a partnership with David Luiz at the heart of Maurizio Sarri’s defence.
