Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho was left incensed after his Everton counterpart Roberto Martinez conducted his post-match press conference first in the wake of Saturday afternoon's fixture between the two sides.

The reigning Premier League champions succumbed to their third defeat of the season at Goodison Park as a Steven Naismith hat-trick secured a 3-1 victory for the hosts to leave the Blues languishing in 17th place in the table.

As the away manager, the Portuguese tactician expected to complete his media duties ahead of the Toffees boss in order to board Chelsea's team bus and begin the journey back to west London as quickly as possible.

But the Spaniard entertained the media first and Mourinho approached Martinez, who was hosting a separate briefing with a handful of national newspaper journalists outside the main media room, en route to his press conference.

Mourinho interrupted his opposite number's conversation and said: "Roberto, Roberto, next time tell me to go before you travel because we have to travel," report the Guardian.

But Martinez insisted: "I don't control that, Jose. I don't control that." To which a frustrated Mourinho replied: "F***ing hell," before walking off.

Asked about the exchange after Mourinho's hasty exit, Martinez said: "When he beat us last 6-3 last season he was such a nice man. I prefer him like that," before adding that he was sure Mourinho would still join him for a customary post-match drink.

Mourinho later apologised for not holding a separate meeting of his own with the national newspaper journalists and cited the reason for his absence as a confusion over media schedules, which had delayed Chelsea's departure from Merseyside.
