It's official. London's footballers love basketball.

The proof? Almost every other celebrity at the O2 arena on Thursday seemed to ply their trade in the Premier League.

Table-toppers Arsenal, sent the biggest contingent including Olivier Giroud, Lukas Podolski and Jack Wilshere, while Chelsea were well represented by David Luiz and Demba Ba.

London can look forward to seeing plenty more of the NBA after the sold-out south London venue watched the Brooklyn Nets cruise to a 127-110 victory over the Atlanta Hawks.

Joe Johnson scored 29 points and Andray Blatche brought 20 off the bench as five Nets players scored in double figures - veterans Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett kicking in 18 and 12 respectively, keeping Brooklyn in front virtually all the way.

This was the fourth regular-season game played in London in as many years, a project spearheaded by NBA commissioner David Stern who saw the Olympics as a chance to kick-start a sport which has struggled to gain a foothold in this country.

But with London's football stars leading the charge, the popularity of NBA basketball in the UK can only grow...
