Mauricio Pochettino insists Tottenham were the better team at Stamford Bridge despite losing 2-1 to Premier League title rivals Chelsea.

Spurs started the stronger of the two London rivals as Christian Eriksen fired home a brilliant opener in the 11th minute, but Pedro curled in a brilliant equaliser on the stroke of half-time to cancel out the visitors' fine work.

Antonio Conte's hosts were ahead six minutes after the restart through Victor Moses, and the Blues held on for a narrow win to collect their seventh straight league win to return to the top of the table.

The defeat sees Spurs now trailing Chelsea by seven points, but Pochettino feels his side were unfortunate to lose in west London.

"If we analyse the game we were better," BBC Sport reports him as saying. "We competed very well and we were a bit unlucky to concede...never 1-1 at half-time.

"The second half we conceded a goal very early. We are disappointed but we need to be pleased for the performance and the way we competed against a very good team.

"We had the possession and created more attempts than Chelsea. All the stats are for us but football is not just about stats. You need to be clinical and score. It was a competitive game.

"Every game you need to prove. It is tough to compete in the Premier League and the Champions League. We need to look ahead and prepare for the next game."
