Spot on: Tadic celebrates after pulling Southampton level

Chelsea suffered a Champions League hangover today as they dropped two crucial points in the title race and failed to take a firmer grip of first place in the Premier League.

Jose's men had a great opportunity following Manchester City's surprise defeat at Burnley the day before.

However, Chelsea showed all the fragility that cost them in Europe against Paris Saint Germain in midweek to slump to an unconvincing draw at home against Southampton.

They will still be firm favourites to finish top given they're six and seven points ahead of City and Arsenal respectively, with a game in hand.

But playing like this will give their rivals great hope they can still be caught as Southampton were the better side for long periods and could have left with a rare away win at Stamford Bridge.

The home side actually got off to the perfect start when Diego Costa headed them in front after just 11 minutes - his first goal since January 17th.

But Southampton were on level terms just eight minutes later after Nemanja Matic was penalised, and booked, for bringing Mane down in the area.

It looked like it was Branislav Ivanovic who actually tripped him, but Dusan Tadic made no mistake from the spot.

Referee Mike Dean then ignored Chelsea's appeals for a spot kick themselves when Tadic trod on Ivanovic's foot in the area.

But Dean appeared to balance any feelings of injustice by not showing Matic a second yellow just after the break for felling Mane.

Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois made a number of fine stops as Southampton looked like they'd score every time they came forward.

Mourinho's men did start to show some fight for the cause in the last half hour. Costa had an effort come back off the post and Fraser Forster made some stops from Oscar and Eden Hazard.

The England keeper also produced late heroics to stop Cesar Azpilicueta and substitute Loic Remy from getting a late winner.

But Chelsea can have no complaints about having to share the spoils and their unconvincing form continues to be a major worry for Mourinho.
