Charlton's match with Swindon disrupted by balloons as fans continue protest against Roland Duchatelet

Charlton supporters forced a delay in their final home game of the season as they continued their protests against owner Roland Duchatelet.

Dozens of black and white balloons were released and ended up on the Valley pitch, causing a delay during the Addicks’ home game against Swindon.

Before kick-off thousands of supporters had gathered by the West Stand to voice their frustration towards Duchatelet, though the Belgian businessman was once more not present at the Valley. He has not attended a Charlton home game since October 2014.

Elsewhere several supporters blocked off the club car park before kick-off, holding banners saying “No Entry” and “Tick Tock Time To Go Roland”.

Charlton fans show up at match to protest against club owners

It is the latest in a string of protests by supporters desperate to force their owner out of the club and comes at the end of a dispiriting season for Charlton, relegated from the Championship last season.

At full-time several Charlton fans ran onto the pitch to continue their protest though there was a significant number of stewards deployed at the Valley during the game.

Charlton will ultimately end the season in the bottom half of League One though a 3-0 win over the already-relegated Swindon at least ensured they scrambled up the table on the final day, Josh Magennis, Jake Forster-Caskey and Ricky Holmes scoring the goals.

The three points also ensured they stayed above fellow Londoners AFC Wimbledon, who ended their season with a 0-0 draw against Oldham.
