'Changing a manager do more harm than good,' says Seb Brown

Stability is healthy: Seb Brown says managers should be given longer tenures
11 April 2012

There has been a lot of talk lately about the benefits of sacking managers in the middle of the season lately and I was amazed that there were even rumours about our own boss Terry Brown recently.

It is a problem that doesn't just come up in the Premier League, where we have seen QPR and Sunderland make a change.

Unfortunately, after my last column AFC Wimbledon went on a bit of a losing streak and I was asked by another reporter recently if he'd heard that the supporters weren't happy and there were murmurings that Terry could go.

I must admit I knew nothing about it and couldn't believe there was an issue to begin with. It is ludicrous.

Terry has done a great job at the club and the first priority for us this season was always to secure our position in League Two.

We are on course to do just that and what I question is whether changing a manager would help in the first place. It can actually do more harm than good.

I remember being in that position when I was a first year scholar at Brentford in 2006. We started with Leroy Rosenior in charge, got off to a bad start and he was replaced by Scott Fitzgerald. Then the same thing happened to him and the youth development officer Barry Quinn took over for the last few games. So change for changes sake isn't always the best way to go.

Thankfully we won at Port Vale last week and are looking to build on that against Gillingham this weekend.

We have been boosted by the signing of new players this month, including old Wimbledon favourite Jason Euell, who has joined on loan and given us a real lift.

All the players now want to repay the faith Terry has shown in us to win games and put these rumours to bed once and for all.
