West Ham have been handed a tough test against Manchester City in the Capital One Cup semi-final after beating Tottenham 2-1 at White Hart Lane.

Goals from Mohamed Diame and Modibo Maiga secured victory for Sam Allardyce’s side after Emmanuel Adebayor’s opener, and they will now face Manuel Pellegrini’s side at Etihad Stadium.

The other semi-final tie will see Sunderland host Manchester United at the Stadium of Light after they stunned Chelsea 2-1 on Tuesday, meaning the Manchester clubs could meet in the cup final.

David Moyes’ Red Devils progressed to the semi-final stage thanks to a 2-0 win over Stoke, with strikes from Ashley Young and Patrice Evra enough to send the Red Devils through.

The first leg will be played in the week commencing January 6, with the return fixture set two weeks later for the week starting on January 20.
