Brentford have taken a major step forward in their plans for a new stadium after Hounslow Council approved amendments on their project at Lionel Road.

The club want to build a new 17,250-capacity ground and hope work, which will include creating 487 new homes (above) at the site near Griffin Park, will start early next year.

The revised plans brought the proposed capacity down from 20,000.

Brentford chairman Cliff Crown said: “We hope to begin construction in February and will share more details with fans in the new year.”

The Bees are expected to share their new ground with a Premiership rugby club.
