Brentford plan to move into new stadium in December 2019

New home: Brentford will begin work on the Lionel Road ground next month

Brentford will start building work on their new stadium at Lionel Road next month and want to move into the ground by December 2019.

EFL clubs are allowed to switch grounds during a season and Brentford are confident the 17,250-capacity stadium will be finished by October next year.

The Championship club would then need to host test events at the venue — probably friendlies involving their B team or possibly their first team during an international break — before they could host a competitive fixture there. Brentford have received planning permission from Hounslow Borough Council and hope to groundshare the new stadium with Premiership rugby union side London Irish.
