Ben Davies: Tottenham squad aren't worried about lack of signings - we've got the quality to compete with top six

Ben Davies says the Tottenham squad is not worried by the club's quiet summer in the transfer market and believes they will compete at the top of the Premier League again this season.

With ten days until the transfer deadline, Spurs are the only club from last season's top six yet to buy or sell a player, as they look set to leave their business until the final week of the window for the second year running.

By contrast, Liverpool, who finished a place below Spurs in fourth last season, have already spent over £150million on four new players but Davies is relaxed about the situation.

"It doesn't worry us," the left-back said ahead of Spurs' friendly against AC Milan in Minneapolis on Tuesday. "We've got a good squad here and even on this pre-season tour so far the boys have put in good performances.

"We see all the teams around us adding – but that's football. We don't worry about that. All we have to worry about is what goes on behind closed doors for us.

"I think we've showed that we could [compete with the rest of the top six]," Davies added. "The squad is the same at the moment but we've got a lot of quality here and we can show that again this season.

"Of course the teams around us are going to strengthen but new faces doesn't necessarily mean that teams are going to be better. All these teams and top sides just having new faces last year doesn't necessarily mean they're going to be a better team to play against.

"We've been competing there or thereabouts for the last couple of years and all we can do is go that one step further. The quality of the teams in the league are getting better and better and that means we have to keep up in our game to up there and kick on this year."

Spurs will move into their new 62,000-seater stadium back in Tottenham in September after spending last season at Wembley, and Davies admitted the players felt "disconnected" at the national stadium – despite losing just twice there in the League.

But he believes the experience at their temporary home, as well as Spurs' supporters, will help the club to quickly feel comfortable at the new stadium, starting with the first game there against Liverpool on September 15.

"Last year we did really well in playing at Wembley all year," he said. "Of course you can't really complain about the actual stadium and what it is, but you're still away from your home stadium and it felt a bit disconnected from what you normally have with all your home fans there every single week, when you feel like it's your home.

"In the new stadium hopefully we can settle in quickly there and we'll be home sooner rather than later as the season goes on.

"At our training ground they do everything they can to make it as realistic as possible. We will be training on the same size pitches and it will be the same quality as it would in the stadium. Nothing is going to actually prepare us for what we're going into but when there's 58,000 Spurs fans in there I'm sure it's going to feel like home quick enough."

Davies established himself as Spurs' first choice left-back ahead of Danny Rose last season and the 25-year-old says he is still improving as a player.

"You can never be a complete player," he said. "There's always things you can work on in football and that's something I know myself and all my team-mates here. That's what the manager drives into us, to never stop learning. For me it's about getting forward but also it's the defensive side. It changes every day, but it's stuff you're learning constantly at this club.

"The way full-backs are going now you have to be as creative as possible as well as being solid defensively," he added. "If I can chip in in attack, I'll always say that a full-back is there to be part of the defence first and foremost, but if you can chip in at the other end with the odd one here and there it's definitely a valuable asset to have."
