Aston Villa owner Tony Xia refuses to comment on John Terry speculation

Aston Villa owner Tony Xia has refused to comment on speculation linking the Championship club with John Terry.

Terry left Chelsea at the end of the past campaign after spending 22 years at the west London club, and is now believed to be wanted by a host of teams which includes Bournemouth and West Brom among others.

Standard Sport reported earlier this month that Harry Redknapp will also urge Birmingham to hand Terry his £1000,000-a-week wage demands to try and persuade him to join the Championship club.

Birmingham's fierce city rivals, Aston Villa, were also reported to be interested in signing the 36-year-old on a free transfer although club owner Xia has since invoked Jose Mourinho's stance of never commenting on a player contracted to another side when asked about Terry on social media.

After a fan on Twitter questioned whether reports of Villa being keen on Terry were true, Xia replied on Wednesday: "Quoted Jose M. 'I am not going to talk about a player who still belongs to another club' as JT's contract with CFC expires until 1/7."

Terry has spent the summer on holiday with his family in Portugal, but returned to London this week to continue training at Chelsea's base in Cobham.
