Paul Lambert says last season’s 8-0 drubbing at Stamford Bridge will not be on his mind when Aston Villa play there tonight.

The defeat last December was the low point of Villa’s League campaign and was followed by a 4-0 home defeat to Tottenham and a 3-0 loss against Wigan.

Villa boss Lambert (above) said: “We owe it to ourselves as well to go down there and try to do better.

Our supporters have been absolutely brilliant. Even after that game they never turned on the lads.

“I don’t think about it [the 8-0 defeat] to be honest. It’s a new season and there are a lot of new lads in the side. Both teams are totally different.”
