Champions League holders Real Madrid celebrated qualifying for the knockout stages of the competition with an impressive 2-0 victory against AS Roma in the Italian capital.

Both sides had already qualified for the last-16 before the start of the match after CSKA Moscow lost 2-1 after suffering a late collapse at home to Viktoria Plzen in Group G.

With the pressure off, Roma started brightly but were unable to make their early pressure count as Thibaut Courtois stood firm for the visitors.

Roma were made to pay for those misses early in the second half as Gareth Bale punished slack defending after a wayward clearance from Roma goalkeeper Robin Olsen.

With Roma on the ropes, Real made it two as Lucas Vazquez tapped home his first goal of the season from close range just before the hour mark.
