Arsene Wenger says he could manage England 'one day' but reiterates Arsenal focus

Arsene Wenger today refused to rule out the prospect of managing England and insisted he will make a decision on his future at the end of the season.

The Football Association were interested in speaking to Wenger about the job after Roy Hodgson resigned following England’s exit at Euro 2016 but the 66-year-old stated he would not break his contract with the Gunners.

Sam Allardyce’s departure on Tuesday after just 67 days as Hodgson’s successor has forced the FA to revisit the situation and as Standard Sport reported on Wednesday, Wenger is top of their wishlist should he show any inclination to leave the club at which he celebrates his 20th anniversary in charge tomorrow.

Wenger’s current deal expires in June and he was careful to leave all options open to him when speaking at the club’s London Colney training base this morning ahead of Sunday’s Premier League trip to Burnley.

Asked about the possibility of managing England, he said: “Right now my priority is to do well here. “This has always been my club and if I am free one day, why not? I’m focused on my job right now.”

Pushed on when he will determine his future and what factors will influence his decision, he added: “Yes [I will decide at the end of the season. What will influence me the most is the fact that I feel I do well and can move this team forward.”
