Arsene Wenger insists unsettled Eduardo is still important to the Gunners' plans

Frustrated: Eduardo has struggled

Arsene Wenger has revealed he will hold clear the air talks with Eduardo after hinting he has expressed his frustration at a lack of first-team football.

The 27-year-old has started just 17 matches and scored six goals in a season truncated by a series of troublesome injuries.

Wenger believes Eduardo is yet to fully recover from the horrific broken leg suffered against Birmingham in February 2008 but he insists the Croatia striker has shown signs of returning to his best.

Lyon have been linked with an £8million summer bid but Wenger, who ruled out the prospect of a loan deal to increase his playing opportunities, said: "In the last month he looked sharp to me in training. He had a period where he was in and out and had a little niggling injury.

"It was the first full season after his injury. He was a bit disturbed but I think next season should be better for him. He is very important to my plans. We extended his contract because we believe in him."

However, Eduardo is expected to slip down the pecking order with Wenger set to sign Marouane Chamakh on a free transfer from Bordeaux at the end of the season.

The Arsenal boss is also planning to add a defender to his squad this summer with William Gallas, Sol Campbell and Mikael Silvestre's contracts all set to expire.
