A supporter ran to the dugout at St Mary's to berate Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger during the Gunners 2-0 defeat by Southampton today.

With the score 2-0 to the Saints with five minutes to play, the fan ran over and angrily confronted Wenger, who was sitting down, before the manager and his assistant, Steve Bould gestured at him to move away. The fan was soon escorted out by security.

It is understood that the fan was a Southampton supporter.

Sadio Mane's third goal in as many games from the narrowest of angles gave Southampton the lead in the 34th minute against one of their rivals for a top-four finish at St Mary's.

Mane brushed past Laurent Koscielny and beat Wojciech Szczesny to a throughball after the Arsenal goalkeeper inexplicably rushed far out of his goal, and Mane curled the ball over him and into the net from a tight angle.

Dusan Tadic lashed in from close range after Mathieu Debuchy and Szczesny failed to clear a cross from Steven Davis in the 56th.

The result gave Southampton at three-point cushion in fourth place.
