Arsene Wenger has confirmed Thierry Henry has begun his coaching badges at Arsenal and reiterated his belief the former striker could one day manage the club.
Henry has taken charge of two sessions with one of the Gunners’ youth teams having asked Wenger to learn his trade with the team he scored 228 goals in 377 appearances spanning two spells.
That led to speculation the 37-year-old could succeed Wenger when he eventually decides to vacate the position he has held for 19 years and the Frenchman believes his countryman could be among the possible candidates.
“That would not be my problem, it would be a problem of the board to make that decision,” he said this morning. “Yes of course [he has the skills to do it]. I’ve said that many times but I’ve had many, many players who can do this job.
“Thierry makes his badges. He makes his first steps as a coach and that’s always a bit impressive when you start. It’s good for our young players to be coached by him, a legend of the club.
“He has been here once or twice but I don’t know how often he has to do his sessions. I don’t see him when he’s here because he’s on a different ground and he’s with the youth team.”
