Alexis Sanchez has handed Arsenal fans hope he has not suffered a serious injury after saying his calf problem is "hurting a bit" but that he hopes to return to action next week.

Sanchez was ruled out of Chile's World Cup qualifier against Colombia tonight after suffering what the Chile FA called a "low-grade muscle injury" during a training session on Tuesday.

Arsenal's medical department were due to hold talks with Chile's medical staff to determine the extent of Sanchez's injury, but the forward has now said he will be fit enough to play in his nation's next game at home to Uruguay next Tuesday.

Speaking to Chilean newspaper El Mercurio, the 27-year-old said: "It is hurting a bit but I'm fine.

"I'll be back for Tuesday."

Sanchez has proved an integral part of Arsenal's early season success, scoring six league goals as the team's main striker to help the Gunners keep up the pace with current league leaders Liverpool.

Arsenal, who sit in fourth place in the Premier League standings, will travel to take on Manchester United after the international break on 19 November before hosting Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League four days later.
