Former Arsenal head of recruitment Sven Mislintat has landed a new role after being appointed sporting director at Stuttgart.

The 46-year-old left the Gunners in January after just 14 months in the job, having arrived with a big reputation from Borussia Dortmund in November 2017.

Mislintat played a key role in the signings of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the 2017-18 campaign.

However, it was reported a difference in opinion between the German and sporting director Raul Sanllehi led to his eventual departure.

Now he has joined up with former Aston Villa player Thomas Hitzlsperger, who was appointed director of football at Stuttgart board earlier this year, signing a two-year deal with the Bundesliga strugglers.

“It's a huge challenge and at the same time a great honour to work for a club like VfB," Mislintat said.

"I’ve grown up around clubs with tradition, so that atmosphere is very important to me. The conversations with Wolfgang Dietrich and Thomas Hitzlsperger were extremely good and key to my decision.

"Our common focus in the coming weeks is on the fight for survival, but of course we’re already looking at the plans for the new season.”

“Sven Mislintat has built up a high reputation over his long career,” added Hitzlsperger.

“With his knowledge, his network and his way of thinking about football, he fits us perfectly. I’m very pleased he’s decided to become part of our VfB team.”
