Arsenal manager Jonas Eidevall has called on the FA to do more to help English clubs in the Women’s Champions League.

The Gunners face Zurich at Emirates Stadium tonight looking to back up their dominant 5-1 win against holders Lyon in France last week.

Chelsea have also made an impressive start in Europe, but Eidevall believes those good results are “despite the system and not because of it”.

The Swede has urged the FA and English clubs to work together to find a schedule that gives maximum recovery time for WSL clubs to help them realise their full potential in the Champions League, which has only been won once by an English team — Arsenal, in 2007.

“What I am looking for is to have that discussion with the clubs and the authorities that run the league, to see how we give the clubs that compete in Europe the best possible conditions in order to achieve results that are good, both short term but also long term for the league,” he said.

“But we do not have those discussions and I think that is not good enough.”
