Arsenal vs West Brom: Gunners could face league record lowest crowd as fans return season tickets

Arsenal could face West Brom in front of one of the lowest capacity crowds for a Premier League match in the history of Emirates Stadium after a host of season ticket holders made their seats available on the club’s ticket exchange.

On Tuesday over 2,500 tickets were available to Arsenal members on the Arsenal Ticket Exchange Service. These are made available when season ticket holders inform the club that they do not plan to attend the game.

Nearly all of the tickets for the game are already technically sold to season ticket holders, but the widespread availability on the exchange service would suggest that many regular supporters will opt to stay away on Thursday night.

Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace saw sizeable pockets of empty seats around the Emirates, though the official figure for tickets sold was over 59,000.

The lowest number of tickets sold at the 60,260-capacity stadium since its opening in 2006 was 46,539 for a League Cup tie with Shrewsbury Town in September 2011.

Arsenal’s average number of tickets sold for the season has been 59,960 – 99.4 per cent of the capacity of the Emirates. Only Manchester United, West Ham United and Norwich City have recorded a higher proportion of their ground filled.
