Starting: Sanogo is yet to feature in this season's Champions League
Standard Sport26 November 2014

Arsene Wenger handed Yaya Sanogo a first European start of the season as Danny Welbeck was not passed fit to feature at Emirates Stadium on Wednesday.

The Gunners boss made three changes to the side which lost to Manchester United at the same venue on Saturday, with Emiliano Martinez coming in for the injured Wojciech Szczesny.

Elsewhere, Santi Cazorla was brought in to replace Jack Wilshere, who is facing a lengthy lay-off, while Sanogo was handed his first Champions League start of the season.

Team news in full...

Arsenal Starting XI: Martinez, Chambers, Mertesacker, Monreal, Gibbs, Arteta, Ramsey, Cazorla, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Sanogo, Sanchez.

Substitutes: Huddart, Koscielny, Bellerin, Rosicky, Flamini, Podolski, Campbell.

Dortmund Starting XI: Weidenfeller, Piszczek, Subotic, Ginter, Schmelzer, Gündogan, Bender, Großkreutz, Aubameyang, Mkhitaryan, Immobile.

Substitutes: Langerak, Durm, Hornschuh, Kehl, Jojic, Kagawa, Ramos.

During his pre-match press conference Wenger was asked to give his view on why Dortmund had struggled to find their form in the Bundesliga. The Frenchman highlighted one key issue: injuries.

“I think they had many injuries at the start of the season,” he said. “Because they are a big club, the questions come very quickly — ‘why do you lose?’ — and then the confidence drops a little bit. I don’t worry too much for them in the championship. They have a rival like Bayern, who once you are too many points behind, is difficult to reach again. I don’t think they will stay where they are at the moment.”
