William Carvalho has hinted that he could be interested in a move to Arsenal in the future.

The Sporting Lisbon midfielder was strongly linked to the north London club throughout the summer but a switch failed to materialise, despite his stellar performances at the European Under-21 Championships.

The 23-year-old is adamant that he is still keen to secure silverware at his current club, but also has an allegiance to the Gunners as he idolises their record goalscorer Thierry Henry.

"I am where I want to be right now, which is Sporting, but if I ever do leave then it's a sign that my work here was well done.

"I dream of winning the Primeira Liga here," he told Portuguese newspaper A Bola.

"I prefer not to say too much, but there is a club with which I’ve always been fond of: Arsenal. Because of Thierry Henry, a player with whom I have always enjoyed watching.

"Maybe this is why I look with so much affection to the Premier League."

Carvalho has a contract with Sporting that does not expire until 2018.

Arsene Wenger has a paucity of options in the centre of midfield, with Francis Coquelin one of few specialist defensive midfielders at the French manager's disposal.
