Crystal Palace co-owner Steve Parish has revealed the club's hastily assembled attempt to land Jack Wilshere on loan quickly got away.

The Eagles were reportedly in pole position to sign Arsenal's Wilshere on season-long loan, but ultimately lost out as the England international opted for a move to Bournemouth.

Palace were unable to secure any deadline day signings despite identifying Venezuela captain Tomas Rincon as a back-up target were Wilshere to snub their loan deal.

And Parish has revealed Crystal Palace's interest in Wilshere only surfaced in recent days after being approached over a possible temporary move for the Arsenal man.

“It was a bit like Haley’s Comet – it arrived as fast as it went," he told Holmesdale Radio

“We were contacted ‘would we be interested?’ We said yes and threw our hat in the ring but the player decided to go to Bournemouth, I think one of his best mates plays there.

“He’s a very, very good player – that’s the level of player we are trying to bring to the club. You can’t win them all.
