Hull City manager Steve Bruce will continue his pursuit of on-loan Arsenal midfielder Isaac Hayden’s permanent signature despite being rebuffed by his parent club in January.

Hayden, who along with fellow loanee Chuba Akpom was ineligible for Saturday’s FA Cup tie, has impressed his manager during Hull’s promotion charge and has made 20 appearances for the Championship leaders.

Bruce made a bid to sign the 20-year-old during the January transfer window and, though Arsenal refused to sell earlier this year, he will continue his pursuit of Hayden in the summer.

“With Nick Powell and Isaac Hayden I would love to make the deals permanent right now,” he told BBC Radio Humberside. “They’re the type of young lads you build your club around.

“They weren’t interested in January but it’s something we’ll prolong and see what happens in the summer.”

The youngster has rarely looked carving out a permanent space for himself in the Arsenal side. Hayden played in just two League Cup matches between 2013 and 2015 before moving out on loan.

Hull did not seem to struggle unduly without Hayden and Akpom in their 0-0 draw away to Arsenal in the FA Cup. However they did require an inspired performance from reserve goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic, who made 11 saves as the visitors held on to secure a replay.
