Arsenal transfer news: Gunners rule out permanent deal for Radamel Falcao

Expensive: Radamel Falcao would cost at least £50m

Arsenal have ruled out the possibility of signing Radamel Falcao on a permanent basis from Monaco.

The 28-year-old would command a fee in the region of £55million and the Gunners are reluctant to spend to that level having already committed more than £60m in transfer funds plus wages and signing on fees this summer.

Although the club has cash reserves to cover a potential deal, Arsenal ring-fence around £40m as an insurance policy against any failure to qualify for the Champions League and the potential cost of signing Falcao on a permanent basis could see them dip into that money.

A loan deal, rumoured to cost anywhere between £12m and £20m would be more affordable and Saturday’s late enquiry for Queens Park Rangers’ striker Loic Remy prior to his move to Chelsea is evidence manager Arsene Wenger is still considering bringing in a forward with Olivier Giroud sidelined until the New Year.
